Identifying

You should exercise caution when identifying giant hogweed. Contact with the Giant Hogweed, particularly the sap, can lead to severe blistering and scarring which can last for several months . Giant Hogweed primarily favours river banks but also other areas such as parks, graveyards and wasteland

Giant hogweed closely resembles native cow parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris). It can grow to the height of 3-5 meters and blossoms with a white flower, which resembles an umbrella.

The Giant hogweed stem is a purple / red colour which is covered in fine spines, which gives the illusion of fur. It also has spotted leaf stalks and tends to flowers in June and July and flower heads that are usually 50 centimeters wide.
